3,552 people watched as Stevenage FC kicked off the club’s first ever fixture in the Football League.

Boro’s inaugural Football League match was at home to Macclesfield Town, a team which Boro had previously met on a number of occasions during the Conference years.

Within minutes of the match starting, the home side took the lead.  A deep cross from Charlie Griffin was not dealt with by visiting goalkeeper Jose Veiga, who could only claw the ball into the path of the oncoming Boro midfielder Peter Vincenti, who stooped low to head the ball into an empty net.  Just 6 minutes of play had been recorded.

This may be one of the easiest goals Peter has ever scored, but is a true moment in history, as after 34 years, the Boro had finally recorded their first ever goal as a Football League club.
