Following the demise of Stevenage Athletic in 1976, members of the former youth team were assembled into a reformed Stevenage FC, playing U18 games in the Chiltern Premier League.
Games were played on Saturdays, with the home ground being a roped off pitch at the King George V playing fields.
The fledgling team enjoyed great success, notably reaching the FA Youth cup 3rd round in 1978 and pushing previous winners Ipswich Town in a hard thought battle, before finally succumbing to a 4-2 defeat. The game was played out at the Hitchin Town ground.
Stevenage FC won the Eastern counties youth cup on two occasions before turning senior in 1979 and competing as members of the Wallspan Southern Combination, where their opponents were mostly reserve teams of Isthmian League clubs.
